2007 edition of UMass Dartmouth’s annual literary review
In both 2006 and 2007, the organization behind UMass Dartmouth’s Temper sought me out to have me design and typeset the book. It featured both poetry and prose. For the inside, I took extra care in trying to make sure the copy was easy to read and absorb.
The cover designs for both years are abstract compositions inspired from the campus itself. The way light would pass between the columns of the buildings (especially at sundown) was something I always found to be quite fascinating. Also, using a particular pictorial image presented a number of potential pitfalls. The subject and tone of all of the written pieces varied greatly, so finding something to appropriately represent everything seemed unlikely, and of course, I didn’t want to have to resort to some sort of generic, canned image.
